The door creaks closed. In the pale light of your lantern, abandoned skeletons cast terrifying shadows on the walls. Frantically, you open your dusty satchel, praying for answers. Could this be all that remains of legendary explorer Crispin Sheppard, who mysteriously vanished all those years ago?
Rumours of an ancient curse shroud the stones of this pitch-black tomb. You’re sure this is where the treasure is buried. But now you’re all alone in the dark-and in the cold air of the crypt, something primeval is stirring…
Cryptic was the second Nottingham escape room to take shape in the diabolical mind of our creator! A secretive, mad genius who rarely sees the light, he delved deep into his love of the medieval, the mysterious, and classic adventure to bring you this compelling room.
Macabre, insidious, and packed with surprises, Cryptic is a room that doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Take too many wrong turns as you try to puzzle out the solution to its centuries-old mystery, and your bones could be added to the gruesome ornaments littering the barely-visible flagstones…
What are the clues trying to tell you? Do the pitiful remnants of these past explorers have more to say than their empty eyes and bony mouths are letting on? You know you should heed the warnings. You know you should turn back. But now the door has slammed behind you, and the deadly gold-lust is driving you on.
Like all of our Nottingham escape rooms, Cryptic is best challenged by two or more brave questers. Join the ranks of the treasure-hunters who have passed through its grim portals. Will you take your place as one of the few who have come out again?
Our host was lovely as he tried to put Laura at ease due to her whimpy nature but Becky just found the whole thing hilarious, so did our host. We were given our briefing in the room, given our props which included a bag and a lantern each.
Room Set Up
The room was pitch black our lanterns were our only light to use in this game. There was very little props in the room but the sound effects really created an eerie setting. There was plenty of room for the maximum team size however there are some elements that you need to get on the floor for.
The game was liner but we cannot comment on all of it as we were complete failures, Laura struggled to get past the sounds and darkness to get involved so Becky had to do most of the work. With what we saw there isn’t any padlocks in the game but some unusual ways of opening things.
Clues were given by an eerie ghostly voice from above. With all games at Escapologic you wont be given clues unless they feel you need them, in this instance it was annoying for us as Becky was the only one able to take part as Laura struggled, we wished we had some extra help.
We failed… Badly !!!

Its hard to really rate this room as we didn’t see much of it as we couldn’t get past the first room. The set up to the room was really immersive and was just like being in an old crypt. The only part that let it down was not being given more help when you could see us struggling and we were disappointed not being able to move through the game enough.
