Theme

” Your eyes begin to focus through the dull light. The croak and groan of the Russian cargo ship, The Demeter, makes you feel uneasy. You sense that a terrible event has occurred – the crew are missing, presumed dead. Only the body of the Captain is later recovered, found horrifically bound to the helm of the vessel. You have been called upon by Professor Abraham Van Helsing, the noted Dutch Metaphysician and his former student, Dr. John Seward whom’s patient, the aristocrat – Lucy Westenra, is presenting a series of bizarre symptoms. She seems to be drawn under the power of an unknown force which yolks her strength, day by day. What is causing her decline and could it be in some way connected to the eery appearance of the deserted ship upon Whitby’s shore? Only you can find the truth!”

Host

Our hosts Nick and Laura were fantastic, it was a bit of a cold wet day but we were soon greeted by warmth and smiles. We had a long chat about escape rooms especially about the quality of escape rooms around Nottingham. Laura then led us down to our doom to give us the health and safety briefing.

Room Set

Carfax is situated in the caves under Nottingham city center. The set of this game is decorated very well and the use of space is impressive. We weren’t sure what to expect from this game but we were wowed as we moved through the game. Everything in this game has been built to look as authentic as possible which we loved. You can tell lots of thought and care had been put into this game to make it the best it can be, which is difficult having to work around the oddly shaped walls of the cave.. There is enough space in this game for the maximum team size of 5.

Game Play

This is a linear game which has a mixture of logical, code breaking and observational puzzles. There is a little bit of a scavenger hunt which Laura really enjoys. This game is very fluid. All of the puzzles compliment the theme really well which was great for the immersive factor in the game. The locks in the room were mainly key openings which is relevant to the games set.

Clue System

Clues were given by a eerie voice over the sound effects.

Escape Time

54 minutes 49 seconds

Our Overall Rating

Overall Experience ★★★★★

During our last trip to Nottingham we heard about this game which at the time was still being built. We were very excited to play as we had been on a tour of the caves and were intrigued to find out how this space could be used to incorporate an escape game. We both really enjoyed playing this game. The design of the set, mixed with the props, sound effects and story line fully immersed us; giving a really exciting but slightly eerie feel to the game, that really kept us in suspense of what was to come next. This game exceeded our expectations and we would recommend anyone to play this game if they are in the area. Nick and Laura are so nice and we are looking forward to visiting again when the next room is built.
